According to the article, the NPM account of a very large, reputable developer has been compromised, and a malicious payload has been download over a billion times.

Software wallets particular vulnerable, as well as hardware wallets that don’t support clear-signing. The payload works by silently changing out crypto addresses in order to steal funds.

Be extra diligent, when signing transactions, and it is advised to not sign any transactions if you’re using a software wallet.
